“You Seldom Lose An Election For What You Don’t Do!”

I am sure I have written about what was shared with me in 1973 at a National Democratic Congressional Campaign training seminar in Virginia, just outside of Washington D.C. When, at very young Congressional staffer leaned over at the after session cocktail party and asked the oldest, wisest looking southern gentlemen in the room if he had any words of wisdom for a green, aspiring political operative? He took a giant swig from his third martini, and blew his cigar breath over me as he pensively looked out of the corner of his eye and said, “Son, there are only two rules in elections. 1. We need to give the voters a reason to vote against an incumbent, a good reason, and 2. You well seldom lose an election for what you don’t do!

The latter applies here.

The legislature really did nothing, it will not cost them, yet! And the electorate will tolerate it even when their kids get 170 days of poor education instead of 180 while the administrators (all 295 of the it/them) sit in their offices and chortle.

IT’S STILL NOT TO LATE TO ACTUALLY RETOOL, RELOAD, RESET THE WHOLE PLACE.

Remember we have a revenue system based on boundaries that aren’t, while it assesses industries that were.
