Wire Insider: Tina Podlodowski

Tina Podlodowski is the Chair of the Washington State Democratic Party. She joins us to discuss how Democrats are planning on flipping some seats through activism.

For me as Democratic Party Chair, it’s all about sort of opportunity, organizing, and data and discipline. If you take a look at 2018 for Democrats here in Washington State, I think we have a tremendous opportunity to take back a number of State House seats, I think we have an opportunity to increase our majority in the State Senate, and then also to take back a couple of these Congressional seats. I’m most excited about Congressional District 8 and Congressional District 5. We’ve got Lisa Brown, you know probably the best candidate we could ever have in Congressional District 5 as the former Senate Majority Leader.

But more so than that, I’m so excited about the organizing opportunities that we’re putting together for thousands of people around the state of Washington. We’re not just activating Democrats, but we’re activating our partners in organizations like Indivisible, Swing District, Sister District, all of these sorts of things. And really training thousands and thousands and thousands of people to be activists. We’ve got training academies happening everywhere in the state, they’re four hours long and people are coming in and understanding what do they need to do to win campaigns. And all of that work drives our data. It’s really looking at who’s a Democrat, who’s a Republican, who falls in to sort of that big undecided middle because that’s so much bigger than the sum of both parties frankly with party identification, and what are the issues that people really care about and how do we make sure they understand where Democrats stand on those issues as well as what Democrats have done on those issues.
