Wire Insider: Senator Mark Miloscia

Senator Mark Miloscia represents the 30th Legislative District, which is south King County and part of Pierce County. He is the Ranking Member of the Senate State Government, Tribal Relations & Elections Committee. He also sits on the Human Services & Corrections and the Higher Education & Workforce Development Committees. He joins us in this episode of “Wire Insider” to discuss rising homelessness and drug use in the Puget Sound area.

Homelessness, the lack of affordable housing here in King County and how the drug epidemic is destroying lives all across the state. I’m spending a lot of time trying to change our solutions to our programs that are dealing with all these issues and right now unfortunately it’s an uphill battle. We seem to be losing the war on affordable housing, on homelessness and on drugs. We need everybody to implement true quality management. You know everybody laughs about quality in government, it’s an oxymoron, but we need to make it real. We need to look at the data, come up with real plans for success, make sure that our programs that when implemented are efficient, effective, and ethical. They’re not here in Washington State unfortunately.

If we really want true solutions and problems solved in Washington State, the solutions have to be bipartisan. One narrow, ideological group on the left or the right will just lead to trouble. When you have bipartisanship, when you have people talking across the aisle, then the best ideas of both parties get brought forward and when implemented, that’s when we have true success for the people of Washington.
