“We Are Here To Honor Those Brave Men and Women”

Col. Bruce Bowers, Jr., speaks at the Capitol Rotunda Veterans Day ceremony.

Olympia paused on November 11 to honor the veterans who served our country. To honor those who put their lives and careers on hold to suffer the boredom, physical deprivation, fear, and in many cases, deadly pathos of military service.

At the Capitol Rotunda Col. Bruce Bowers, Jr., commander of the 446th Airlift Wing at Joint Base Lewis gave the keynote address at an annula ceremony put on by the Thurston County Veterans Council and other veterans groups.

Col. Bowers reminded attendees of the origins of this day, how it was originally meant to celebrate the end of World War I, “the war to end all wars.” Suffice to say the wars have continued, and now an all-volunteer force carries on the sacrifice for a grateful country.
