Wagoner sworn in as new senator for 39th District

EVERETT…Keith Wagoner was sworn in Wednesday as the 39th Legislative District’s new state senator.

Wagoner has been mayor of Sedro-Woolley since 2015, after five years on the city council. The retired U.S. Navy commander succeeds Kirk Pearson, who stepped down in November to work for the U.S. Department of Agriculture as its Washington state director for rural development.

“While I’m proud to be the first state senator from Sedro-Woolley, I’m most looking forward to representing the interests of the entire 39th District. I want to learn the job and do my best to support the 39th District and the state as a whole,” Wagoner said.

Because the 39th District spans parts of Skagit, Snohomish and King counties, each commissioner or councilor in those counties had a say in naming a new senator. The vote, also conducted Wednesday, was unanimous for Wagoner – something not common with such appointments.

When the 2018 legislative session convenes Monday, Wagoner will begin serving on the Senate’s Economic Development and International Trade Committee, and its budget-writing Ways and Means Committee.

Constituents may contact Wagoner at his Olympia office:
