A suspect is in custody after allegedly threatening to blow a Teamsters union building in Spokane this morning. The Spokane County Democrats are headquartered in the building and the attack is reported to have been politically motivated.
While no explosives were successfully detonated, the suspect did appear to ignite a small fire which resulted in smoke damage and a broken window.

No one who was present at the Teamsters building is reported to have suffered serious injuries. Information about the suspect has not yet been released by Spokane police.
Following the incident, Spokane County Democrats Chair Nicole Bishop and Washington State Democrats Chair Tina Podlodowski issued the following statement:
We are so relieved that no one was harmed in this reprehensible act of violence. Our primary concern is for the safety of our volunteers and the broader community of Spokane. We urge every elected official and community leader to join us in condemning this apparently politically motivated act of violence. No one should have to fear for their life simply because they participate in our political process.”
When reached for comment by KHQ, Spokane GOP Chairman Brian Steele said: “I don’t know what this person’s agenda may or may not have been, we have great laws, and a constitution that protects us and gives us opportunity for redress in appropriate manners, but we’re really glad no one was hurt. Really grateful for that.”
As the Inlander’s Daniel Walters reported today, the Inland Northwest has a history of extremist bombings. In the past, extremist groups have detonated bombs at Spokane City Hall, a local bank branch, a Planned Parenthood clinic, and a Martin Luther King Jr. parade.
