State Auditor Finds Significant Deficiency at Oakville School District

The State Auditor’s Office published the latest audits on Monday and four school districts were found to have shortcomings.   Oakville School District No. 400 was found to have “deficiencies in internal controls over financial reporting that, when taken together, represent a significant deficiency.” Revenues, expenditures and warrants were all understated by almost $300,000 and it was apparent that the “staff responsible for preparing the financial statements and SEFA lacked a complete understanding of financial reporting requirements for the District.”

Three other school districts, Yakima School District No. 7, Ocean Beach School District No. 101, and Arlington School District No. 16, “did not have adequate internal controls to ensure compliance with federal requirements for its Title I grants.”  Two of the districts funded teachers who did not meet required qualifications, while Ocean Beach “did not maintain adequate semi-annual time and effort documentation for one employee that was charged to Title I.”
