Education Reform: Job # One, so KISS

Article by WashingtonStateWire. Published on Thursday, January 12, 2012 EST.

KISS Education?

Not one person involved with communications, public affairs or advertising has not heard of, or not practiced the KISS approach. You either know or should know that KISS means, “Keep It Simple Stupid!”

As the fiftieth effort of education reform in Washington begins again, again, we like the information on the website of the Washington Roundtable.

We now exist in a K-12 world that is not K-12, it is now pre-kindergarten through 13. The State Supreme Court has rightly acknowledged that P-13 education is not the “paramount” product of the present legislature, customers (parents/guardians and the employment community) are crying out for real evaluation of teachers. Three hundred separate districts replicate administration about every ten miles in the state. The job market changes every minute in multiple countries.

As affiliations like the Roundtable refine their desires and positions as the session progresses their website strikes a strong, fundamental message. They are Keep(ing) It Simple Stupid.

The Roundtable calls for: 1. revised and streamlined governance working toward efficiencies and accountability, 2. a multi-faceted evaluation system based in performance, and 3. acceleration in math and science programs and learning.

It’s sound, it’s simple, and the Roundtable members are anything but stupid. Everyone should focus on education reform this session. The most important people in our state are at risk, making all of us at risk. Most students are not old enough to vote. Someone needs to pick up their cause.
