The Washington State Wire was excited to host a bipartisan, one-on-one virtual debate between two candidates for Lt. Governor: Washington State Senator Marko Liias, a Democrat, and Attorney Ann Davison Sattler, a Republican.
The Morning Wire: Keeping you informed on politics, policies, and personalities of Washington State.
The debate followed a nonpartisan and impartial format, with Liias and Davison Sattler responding to a range of questions, such as the state’s public health and economic response to COVID-19, their legislative priorities, and their preparedness to accede to the governorship in case of a vacancy.
The candidates were selected to participate based on fundraising totals reported in the most recently available PDC filings.
The race’s leading fundraiser, Congressman Denny Heck, was unable to participate due to a scheduling conflict. Nevertheless, Liias and Davison Sattler were provided with an opportunity to pose a question of their choosing to Heck during the debate.
In addition to Liias, Davison Sattler, and Heck, there are eight other candidates vying for a top-two finish in the August 4th blanket primary.
