Statement from House Speaker Frank Chopp on the passing of Gov. Mike Lowry

In my role as a citizen activist, and later, as a state legislator, I had the honor to work with Mike Lowry, in his positions of U.S. Congressman and Governor.

Throughout all those many years, Mike was a very strong and effective voice for defending human rights, fighting poverty, providing health care for low-income people, and creating affordable housing for homeless people and farm workers.

His record of accomplishments for the public good was long and distinguished. It pains me deeply to hear of his passing.

His work will not be forgotten.

Rep. Frank Chopp, Speaker of the House, D-Seattle (43rd Legislative District), represents part of Seattle including Pike Place, Denny Regrade, Capitol Hill, Broadway, Madison Park, Washington Park, Broadmoor, Montlake, University District, Wallingford, Fremont, and downtown Seattle.
