Jessyn Farrell resigns from Legislature

Jessyn Farrell has stepped down from her position as State Representative in order to focus on her mayoral campaign.

Farrell had represented the 46th District since 2012, which includes Kenmore, Lake Forest Park, and parts of North Seattle.

Legislators are unable to fundraise for campaigns while still in session and the second special session ends June 23. The primary is on August 1, and the two candidates with the most votes will advance to the November election. Remaining in the legislature would put Farrell at a financial disadvantage.

Farrell sat on the Transportation Committee as Vice Chair and on the Commerce & Gaming and Rules Committees.

Without Farrell, the House Democrats will only have a one vote majority, 49 to 48, as work on the budget continues. The Democratic Party’s local precinct committee officers are expected to select three nominees to fill Farrell’s seat by June 10.
