Inslee appoints Laura Riquelme to Skagit County Superior Court

Gov. Jay Inslee appointed Laura Riquelme to the Skagit County Superior Court. She replaces Judge Michael Rickert, who is retiring.

Last year Inslee appointed Riquelme to a different position on the Skagit County Superior Court, where she served from March 2016 to November 2016.

Riquelme currently works for the Skagit County Public Defender’s Office as senior deputy attorney.

“Laura’s legal and judicial experience make her the natural choice for this open court seat,” Inslee said. “I believed that last year when I first appointed her and she has continued her distinguished career both on the bench and the public defender’s office.”

Riquelme has also served in the Skagit County Prosecutor’s Office. She is a member of the Skagit County Bar Association and volunteers on the Skagit Immigrant Rights Council. She is fluent in Spanish.

Riquelme earned a bachelor’s degree from University of Massachusetts and a law degree from Syracuse University College of Law.
