When Is Shoreline Water District Going to Get Its Books in Order?

The State Auditor’s Office released its weekly audits on Monday and cited three organizations, Shoreline Water District, Benton County Fire Protection District No. 4, and Hoquiam School District No. 28.

With Shoreline the Auditor found, “The District’s internal controls over financial statement preparation are inadequate to ensure accurate reporting.”  This was particularly frustrating as, “We noted control deficiencies over financial reporting to management in prior audits.” There were errors in the statement of net assets, depreciation, cash flow, and notes to the financial statements.

For Benton County Fire Protection District No. 4, “District Board’s meeting minutes were missing or incomplete. The District did not retain records to demonstrate compliance with Open Public Meetings Act and records retention requirements.”

In the case of Hoquiam School District No. 28. they simply “failed to accurately complete the District’s written student learning plans for its Alternative Learning Experience students.”
