State Auditor Slams Skagit 911
The Washington State Auditor’s Office released its weekly audits on Monday and while other audited organizations had only minor discrepancies, Skagit 911 had significant deficiencies in two different audits.
The findings demonstrated that Skagit 911 “internal controls are inadequate to ensure accurate accounting and reporting,” and “does not provide adequate oversight of payroll activities, which could result in misappropriation of public funds.”
This is particularly troubling given the fact that Skagit 911 has been cited in two previous financial audits for a similar “lack of internal controls.” An 11-member Skagit County Emergency Management Council, which is composed of the Skagit County Board of Commissioners and mayors from the member cities and towns, administers the Center.
